Shawnigan Hills parkrun report for Dec. 11

8 first-timers among 29 finishers

Event No. 34 was our fifth largest to date and the 29 finishers included eight first-timers, many of whom were members of Shawnigan Lake School’s cross-country team. This was also a day where four age-grade records were set: Jesse Inkster, 20:52 (and first finisher) in the VM35-39 category; Pieter DeVries, 22:16 (VM 60-64); Jason Huang, 27:27 (SM 18-19) and Liam Ramstead, 28:10 (JM10). Well done to all those athletes.

Other notable performances included Brian Zimmerman, with a new personal best time of 28:34, and Melanie Findlater (34:41).

All parkrunners were treated to a mix of rain and sunshine throughout the event and they were rewarded with a rainbow at the finish.

Our Christmas Day event will take place at the usual time and we encourage runners to come in fancy dress or wear a Christmas sweater. There will be prizes as well as some festive refreshments at the finish. There will also be an event on New Year’s Day. Details to follow.

Walk, jog, run, volunteer or simply come and watch — it is up to you. Be a part of the community, make new friends and socialize — we meet at Shawnigan Coffee House post-run after each event. It is a great way to start the weekend.
