Shawnigan edges Cow High in Friendship final

Frances Kelsey wins development division final

Shawnigan Lake School beat Cowichan Secondary School in a shootout to win the premier division at the Friendship Cup field hockey tournament on Sept. 13 and 14.

Shawnigan defeated Cowichan 2-1 in a shootout in the premier division final at Shawnigan’s turf.

“Great team effort, great opener to the season,” Shawnigan coach Andi Conroy said. “We love the Friendship Cup. There’s an exciting season ahead. So proud of this bunch of girls.”

Oak Bay beat Mount Douglas for third place in the premier division.

The competitive division final was won by St. Michaels University School over South Delta, also 2-1 in a shootout.

Rounding out the standings were Lambrick Park and M.M. Robinson (Burlington, Ont.) tied for third, Brentwood College School in fifth, and Southridge in sixth.

Frances Kelsey defeated Shawnigan’s junior team 2-0 to win the development division. Glenlyon Norfolk, Quamichan, Brentwood’s second team and SMUS’s second team filled out the standings.
