The Kerry Park Islanders will be well-represented at the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League’s All-Star and Prospects games later this month.
The Isles will have seven players in the All-Star Game in Campbell River on Sunday, Jan. 20, and five in the Prospects Game in Saanich on Jan. 27. No South Division team will have more representatives in either game.
Rosters were picked by coaches throughout the VIJHL, who have obviously noticed the Isles’ success this season.
“It’s a positive thing for all those guys and how hard they worked over the summer,” Kerry Park head coach Aaron Spotts said. “It’s good for the team as well.”
VIJHL scoring leader Evan Easton leads the All-Star Game contingent, which also includes forwards Tanner Tiel, Brandon McClintick and Isaac Leik, defenceman Dawson Blanchette and goalies Charles-Olivier Lepage and Rett Rook. The South Division team will be coached by the Victoria Cougars’ coaching staff.
Four of the same players will appear in the Prospects Game the following week. Leik, Blanchette, Lepage and Brandon McClintick will be joined by blueliner Tory McClintick. The Prospects Game is limited to players between the ages of 16 and 18.
“There are a lot of good young players on our team,” Spotts said. “And I think they’ll get better.”
Cowichan Valley products Cam LeSergent of the Victoria Cougars and Kahlil Fontana of the Westshore Wolves will also play in the Prospects Game.
Spotts will serve as an assistant to head coach Suneil Karod of the Victoria Cougars.
“It’s always exciting to work with young players like that, who are looking to get to another level,” he said.
