The Cowichan Valley Minor Hockey Association is making plans for Capitals’ teams to hit the ice again in September.

The Cowichan Valley Minor Hockey Association is moving forward with plans to commence with the 2020-21 season on schedule with an abundance of precautions for COVID-19.

“We are working hard on our Return to Play for this September,” confirmed Kathy Irving, executive administrator for the CVMHA.

“It is going to take a lot of work but we think we can successfully get our 400 players back on the ice for our Sept. 7th start date.”

Irving added it’s going to take a concerted effort from the organization’s amazing volunteers to meet the COVID-19 safety plan required by Fuller Lake, Cowichan Community Centre and Lake Cowichan arenas, but they’re up for the task.

“We have contacted all of our players and have had a positive response,” she noted. “The season will look quite different with restrictions on players allowed on the ice and limited spectators in our buildings.

“This is what Stage 3 will allow us and we are looking forward to having our players back on the ice.”

Kelly Grooms is returning as president and a few new faces round out the executive following the annual general meeting.
