Peewee Capitals go out with a win

Cowichan team ends provincials on a strong note

The peewee Tier 2 Cowichan Valley Capitals held their heads high and went out on a winning note as they competed for the provincial championship hosted by Hollyburn last month.

“It was a tough tournament for the boys, as expected,” manager Kurt Powers said. “But all had a really good time and it was a great experience for them.”

The Capitals opened with a difficult 16-3 loss to a Port Moody team that would advance to the finals, then faced the eventual bronze medallists from Kelowna and lost 9-0.

“We actually came out of that game very positive that they were able to keep them to three goals a period,” Powers said.

Cowichan ended the tournament with a 4-3 win over Williams Lake.

“It was a very good game,” Powers commented. “Close right until the end, with an empty-netter, and a nice way to finish a great season.”
