A new entry in the Lower Island Women’s Soccer Association kicked off its first season on Sunday morning.

NIFA Pacific United FC played their first Div. 3 match against Gorge at Shawnigan Lake School. Gorge went home with a 2-0 victory, but there were still a lot of positives for the NIFA players.

“The players were really glad to be back playing,” head coach Dano Thorne commented. “We did battle hard.”

With four players unable to attend the game for work reasons, NIFA started the game with just 11 players, then lost starting centre back Maiya Modeste to an injury just before halftime, with the score still tied at 0-0. Both Gorge goals came late in the match.

NIFA will hit the road this weekend, visiting Prospect Lake on Friday evening.
