Some elite players, including the Cowichan Valley’s own George Barton, will be among the instructors at the MacDowell Rugby Summer Camp this week.

A former standout with the Cowichan Rugby Football Club and Shawnigan Lake School, Barton is a Canadian international player and two-time Major League Rugby champion with the Seattle Seawolves now playing for MLR’s Rugby ATL.

He is one of the star instructors at the camp this Thursday and Friday (Aug. 4 and 5) at the Cowichan Rugby Football Club on Herd Road. Running from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. both days, the camp is open to boys and girls of all ages and all skill levels. The cost is $95.

Other instructors will include Temi Ogunjimi, and Josh and Jake Thiel.

Ogunjimi won a gold medal at the 2019 Pan American Games with the Canadian women’s sevens team and plays with the Loonies of the Premier Rugby Sevens league. Jake Thiel just returned from the U.K. where he represented Canada in the men’s rugby sevens competition at the Commonwealth Games, and his brother Josh is also a Canadian international who plays in MLR for the San Diego Legion.
