The Lake Cowichan Kraken will hope to pick up where they left off before the Christmas break when they resume the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League season on home ice this Sunday.

The Kraken won their last two games before the hiatus, and finished their December slate with four wins, two regulation losses and one overtime loss. Through 34 games this season, the team has 15 wins, 17 regulation losses, one overtime loss and one shootout loss for 32 points. They sit four points back of the Comox Valley Glacier Kings for third in the North Division and a guaranteed playoff berth, but they are holding down a wildcard berth in a tight race that includes the Kerry Park Islanders and Port Alberni Bombers, with the Saanich Predators still in the picture.

The club has 16 games left in the regular season: nine games in January and seven in February.

That will start with a home match against the North Division-leading Campbell River Storm this Sunday at 5:30 p.m. After that, the team will play four straight road games: at Port Alberni next Wednesday, Peninsula next Friday, Comox Valley next Saturday, and Campbell River on Jan. 21. The Kraken will return to Lake Cowichan on Sunday, Jan. 23 against the Oceanside Generals.

The Kraken also announced just after Christmas that they have acquired 2002-born forward Sukhraj Narwal from the Port Moody Panthers of the Pacific Junior Hockey League in exchange for future considerations. Narwal was on a point-per-game pace with the Panthers this season, posting eight goals and 20 assists in 28 contests, as well as 16 penalty minutes, while serving as an alternate captain. Over 76 career junior B games, all with Port Moody, Narwal has scored 19 goals and assisted on 33 more for 52 points.
