Hird and Mould named club’s top wrestlers

The Cowichan Valley Wrestling Club held its largest post-season banquet yet, with more than 150 athletes and suppporters gathering at the Ramada Duncan to celebrate another year of excellence.

All junior wrestlers ages 7-12 received medals, while the senior team members were honoured with a range of individual awards.

Talon Hird and Stephanie Mould were named the club’s Most Outstanding Wrestlers. Among other highlights over the year, Hird won his fourth consecutive B.C. high school title in Langley in February, while Mould capped off her storied high school career with a silver at provincials.

Mould was also recognized as one of two graduating wrestlers, along with Emily Reid.

Heart Award: Aiden Dyer-Price and Miaya Brownbridge

Most Improved: Lyle Samson and Chloe Foster

Rookies of the Year: Joaquim Dalton-Pereira and Georgia Bond

Sportsmanship Award: Dylan Battye and Nadja Schwarz

Inspirational/Leadership Award: Talon Hird and Hayley Bye-Pace

Most Outstanding Match: Dawson Jory and Charlie Roberts

Michelle Combdon was named the CVWC’s Volunteer of the Year.

“It was another successful year,” head coach Nick Zuback commented. “We are looking forward to the 2019-20 season.”
