As pleased as he was with his team’s big win last Saturday afternoon Cowichan Farm Store Fury coach Will Chaster was just as delighted with the spectators who braved the frosty conditions to cheer the club on.

“I would like to say to all those fans that came out to watch, that chased down balls that left the pitch, and stayed to the end, a very big thank you,” said the appreciative coach.

Despite the chill in the air, the Fury were hot, romping to a 3-0 victory over the Prospect Lake Lakers on the Sherman Road pitch, breaking a two-game scoreless streak and a three-game losing streak.

“The bounces went Cowichan’s way from before the game began,” Chaster said. “All the practices pulled together as the team dominated the entire pitch.

“We moved the ball from side to side with long switching passes and with short one touch play. We had many open players in dangerous positions and need to continue to read those situations faster.”

Chaster made his first substitutions of the day around the 25th minute, and one of them, Elvis Asengi, converted his first scoring chance in the 32nd minute to open the scoring. The next two goals came on penalty kicks from Brandon Tolfo in the 62nd minute and Shermag Joseph in the 87th minute.

“The team showed a lot of patience and stuck to the plan,” Chaster said. “Our relentless pressure was rewarded with two penalty kicks, both converted.”

Inderveer Heer was named Cowichan’s Man of the Match.

The Fury are at home again this Saturday, hosting Vic West on the Sherman Road turf at 4 p.m.
