Quw’utsun FC’s father-son combo struck for two goals, but it wasn’t quite enough as the Div. 3B soccer team was edged 3-2 by Castaways FC at Topaz Park in Victoria last Sunday.

Brad Thorne returned to the pitch and didn’t wait long to make his presence felt, opening the scoring in the third minute. Castaways responded 33 minutes later, but Thorne’s son, Quinton, came into the game soon after, and scored a goal of his own — his first of the season — at 39 minutes. Castaways tied it up again just before halftime, and managed to score the lone goal of the second half.

“The second half lacked the thrill of goals but the battles on the field were still just as entertaining,” Quw’utsun coach Peter Moses said.

The winning goal came in the 86th minute when Quw’utsun goalie Clinton Charlie came out to challenge Castaways’ Dane Schrader, but didn’t get enough of the ball to keep it out of the net.

Quw’utsun was scheduled to host Juan de Fuca this Sunday, but that game has been postponed.

The team now has one game before the league goes on a month-long holiday hiatus.

“We have been putting up great battles with every team but not getting the results we want,” Moses said. “I have noticed something and we will be working hard to remedy this for our next game. I want to move up in the standings before the Christmas break and I know my boys do too.”
