Former Cowichan Valley Capitals goaltender Laurent Brossoit was one of 30 B.C. Hockey League alumni to crack opening-night rosters when the 2018-19 NHL season began earlier this month.
Brossoit made the Winnipeg Jets as backup to 2017-18 Vezina Trophy nominee Connor Hellebuyck. A former Edmonton Oilers backup, Brossoit didn’t see his first action with the Jets until Sunday night when he made 42 saves in a 3-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
Brossoit played 21 games for the Caps in 2009-10, going 10-8 with a 3.66 goals-against average.
The Jets also include another former BCHLer, Brandon Tanev, who played with the Surrey Eagles, although his rights briefly belonged to the Caps in 2011.
Of the 31 teams in the NHL, 17 have at least one former BCHLer, led by the Nashville Predators, with four.
