Duncan Curling Club doubles down

Doubles bonspiel draws 18 teams to Glen Harper Curling Centre

The Duncan Curling Club tried something different last Sunday, holding a doubles bonspiel at the Glen Harper Curling Centre.

As the name would suggest, the one-day event consisted of teams of two instead of four, and they delivered five rocks per end instead of the usual eight.

The 18 participating teams — up from 10 in the inaugural doubles bonspiel a year ago — were divided into two groups. The A Group was won by Keith Clarke and Kathy Pernak from Nanaimo and Duncan, with Steph Jackson Baier and Corey Chester of Victoria in second and the Duncan duo of Dakota Stevens and Vicki Sjoberg in third.

Connar Croteau and Karly King Simpson from Sooke and Campbell River won Group B, followed by John Knox and Dalton Corbett of Nanaimo in second, and Stephen and Lorrie Wiles of Duncan in third.
