Duncan Christian School was named the most sportsmanlike team in the senior boys 1A Island Championships in Nanaimo Feb. 23-25.

The school came fifth overall after beating Ucluelet 69-67 in their opening game, falling 78-48 to the eventual champions, Nanaimo Christian School in their second game and then coming back just short to Victor Brodeur in a hard-fought 61-53 game three.

Grayson Dunn, Ethan Mitchell, and Tim Kempe were DCS’s players of the game in the team’s three respective games. Dunn also earned accolades as an Island second team all-star.

“Grayson had an amazing tournament, giving everything he had 100 per cent of the time,” said a press release from the school.

“Despite the disappointing loss, our Chargers have had an amazing season of growth and development. Coaches Carl MacDonald, Mike Dunn and Mike Brandsma and all our supporters are very proud of our Chargers Sr. Boys Basketball Team,” said the release.

Queen Margaret’s School’s senior boys team placed seventh in the event, losing to Nanaimo Christian 82-18 in their opening game, then falling 53-34 in their second game and wrapping up their tournament by beating North Island 48-38.

Players of the game for QMS were Teddy Feng, Adrian Chow, and Issac Morgan.
