Duncan Christian Chargers second at Cowichan Valley Classic

DCS and Shawnigan Lake School team up to host junior boys basketball tournament

The Duncan Christian School Chargers won the silver medal and Shawnigan Lake School tied for third as the schools joined forces to host the Cowichan Valley Classic junior boys basketball tournament last weekend.

DCS and Shawnigan met up in the semifinals early on Saturday afternoon, where the Chargers prevailed 67-58. Player of the Game awards went to James Jeon for DCS and Emilio Sanchez for Shawnigan.

The tournament final was a rematch of a round-robin game between Duncan Christian and Pacific Christian, won 55-14 by the very strong PCS Pacers.

Cameron Stevens was named Player of the Game for the Chargers, and Mitchell Austin received the same honour for the Pacers.

In the round robin, DCS defeated Frances Kelsey 47-24, lost to Pacific Christian 76-32, and beat Dover Bay 54-33 to finish second in their pool. Player of the Game awards went to Nathan Powell, Elias Floucault and Jameson Hengstler. Shawnigan finished first in their pool, beating Carihi 57-50, Brentwood 55-49 and Brooks (Powell River) 63-57. Shawnigan’s Player of the Game awards went to Gabriel Au, Jeremy Harvey and Milan Pasquale.

Shawnigan was named the tournament’s Most Sportsmanlike Team. Tournament all-stars included Hengstler for Duncan Christian and Au for Shawnigan.
