Duncan Christian School will not be participating in the provincial single-A girls volleyball championships.
Although the DCS Chargers finished second to Nanaimo Christian at the Island championships in November, the school decided not to send the team to the provincial tournament in Castlegar due to road conditions and safety issues.
BC School Sports had delayed the provincial volleyball championships for a week in order to reassess the situation. One of the possibilities under consideration was to separate the provincials into regional championships, as was done with the boys soccer championships last month, but the BCSS Board of Directors announced on Tuesday that it would be going ahead with the provincial tournaments as previously planned.
Teams that don’t attend will not be replaced, the board said, and instead the size of the tournament will be reduced.
