Ravens and Blue Steel battle for title Friday night

Heidi Haslam, Monni Savory and Mila Main each had two touchdowns on Wednesday night as Blue Steel defeated the Law 38-17 in the Cowichan Women’s Football League playoff semifinal.

Haslam and Kara Olson also had converts, Savory added an interception, and Michaela Peet contributed two sacks for Blue Steel, setting up a rematch of the 2018 CWFL final between Blue Steel and the defending champion Ravens this Friday at 7 p.m. at McAdam Park.

The Law earned their berth in the semi with a 26-12 win over the Storm in one quarter-final last Sunday, while Blue Steel held off the Crew 19-7.

The Law got two touchdowns from Sara Tweten and one each from Jaimie Olson and Wendy Charles, with Charles and Kim Scafe adding converts. On the defensive side, Olson and Scafe each had two interceptions, and Megan Newton had a sack. Replying for the Storm were Caitlin Erickson and Annie Zurrer with touchdowns, while Erickson also had an interception on D.

Blue Steel and the Crew were deadlocked at 7-7 into the fourth quarter before Blue Steel scored twice. Haslam had two touchdowns for Blue Steel and Savory added one, while Rachel Bakker had the convert and Kirbee Crisp added a sack.

The Ravens earned a direct berth into the final when the Wild forfeited their playoff game.

The regular season wrapped up last Friday with a 26-20 win by the Crew over the Law and another win by the Ravens over the Wild.
