Registration for the 2023 track and field season is now open for all age groups and the Cowichan Valley Athletic Club is thrilled to invite younger athletes to join in the fun this year as well.

The club has announced the new non-competitive Track Rascals program for youth born in 2015 to 2017.

Through the program, children will be taught the FUNdamental movement skills of running, jumping and throwing using track and field inspired games, activities, and skill challenges.

“The Track Rascals program is a great entry point for kids to begin learning the skills that form the basis of all land-based sport,” said CVAC President Vlad Valastiak. “The program provides a strong foundation for success in all sports and physical activities, while giving participants the opportunity to develop positive self-image, while being the best that they can be. The focus at this age is not on winning, but rather individual improvement and positive reinforcement in a fun and active learning environment.”

Track Rascals will run Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. starting at the end of the month.

Competitive training and programming begins at the junior development level with ages nine to 13, the high school level with U16 and U18, and the senior level at the end of March as well.

The juniors will meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. while the senior athletes will train from 6:30-8 p.m.

All training sessions will take place at the Cowichan Sportsplex.

Five track meets take place on Vancouver Island during the season (April – June) for the junior and senior level athletes.

Registration can be done at online at: www.cvactrack.com

Registration space is limited, and so early registration is recommended, and a commitment to volunteer and support the club is required.
