After five weeks off for reasons including weather-related cancellations and previously scheduled bye weekends, the Cowshore women’s rugby team got back in action with a 73-22 road win over United in Coquitlam on Saturday.

While most of the team was coming back from a five-week furlough, Brandi Van Eeuwen was making her return to the pitch after three years on the sidelines, and picked up right where she left off, making huge tackles and massive runs to score two tries. Van Eeuwen shared Player of the Game honours with Carolyn Gudmundseth, who scored five tries in the match.

Tyson Beukeboom had three tries, Laura Russell added two, and Marlene Donaldson contributed one in her first game back from an injury. Russell and Beukeboom also slotted two conversions apiece.

Cowshore will host their Vancouver Island rivals from Nanaimo this Saturday at 11 a.m. on the Herd Road pitch.
