Cowichan’s Emily Zurrer and her teammates who won bronze for Canada at the 2012 women’s Olympic soccer tournament were inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame last month.

The team was inducted on Oct. 23 as part of the Class of 2019, and most of the players, including Zurrer, were on hand for the ceremony.

Zurrer posted about the experience on her official public Facebook page.

“What a crazy and incredible honour to be inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame with the best of the best! #reunited”

The 2012 women’s soccer team won Canada’s first medal in a Summer Olympics team sport since the men’s basketball team took silver in 1936.

“The London 2012 Olympic team has gone down in history as a watershed moment for women’s soccer in Canada,” Canada Soccer president Steven Reed said on Canada Soccer’s website. “Canada Soccer congratulates the players and the staff from this remarkable team that made history in Canadian sport.”

Zurrer, who grew up in Crofton and played in the Cowichan Valley Soccer association growing up, also played for Canada in the 2008 Summer Olympics.
