Cowichan Valley Capitals drop two over the weekend

The Capitals have nine regular season games left to make a playoff push

The Cowichan Valley Capitals are hanging on to their playoff hopes despite losing two games over the weekend.

On Feb. 24, the Caps played host to the Victoria Grizzlies at the Cowichan Community Centre.

FortisBC Energy Player of the Game, Darius Bachler, scored his first of the year for the Caps at 6:53 of the opening period from Pier Olivier Allard and William Elias.

Victoria responded with a goal late in the second period to tie the game at one apiece.

Cowichan took the lead in the third period thanks to a Luke Santilli goal. Assists went to Ethan Dekay and Liuke Eurig.

From there, Victoria scored three in a row — with one on the powerplay and one into an empty net — to capture the 4-2 win.

The following night the Caps were in Port Alberni to face the Bulldogs.

Down 1-0 midway through the first, Cowichan answered back with a powerplay goal from Cole Melady. Luke Lavery and Ethan O’Halloran got the helpers.

Three unanswered goals in the third period sealed Cowichan’s fate.

The Capitals have nine regular season games left to make a playoff push. Up next, they host the Nanaimo Clippers on March 3 at 7 p.m. at The Stick before heading back to Port Alberni to face the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in back-to-back road games March 4 and March 5.
