Two pairs from the Cowichan Golf Club were among the top teams in the 2021 BC Golf Zone 5 Women’s Tournament sponsored by KIA Victoria that took place at five courses between Sept. 24 and Oct. 1.
Louise Ketilson and Ursula Schroeder were the medalists for the qualifying round, with the best net score of 78, and fellow CGC members Melinda Spoor and Doreen White were the final runners-up in the consolation flight.
The unique event consisted of pairs of golfers alternating shots. The qualifying round at Cowichan was stroke play, with the qualifying pairs allocated to six flights. The remaining rounds are match play. A total of 96 golfers competed in the tournament, with stops at Cowichan, Arbutus Ridge, Olympic View, Victoria Golf Club and Highland Pacific.
The championship flight was won by Maureen Leech and Carol Harrison of Cordova Bay.
”This was a sweet win for Leech and Harrison as in the last running of this tournament in 2019, they were the runners-up in the championship flight,” tournament spokesperson Shirley Sarens said.
The defending champions from 2019, Ginny Storey and Marilyn Lowry, also of Cordova Bay, won the consolation flight this year.
