A team from the Cowichan Lawn Bowling Club is making history as the first national qualifier — probably — in the organization’s quarter-century existence.

Bill Ferguson, Jim Irvine and Mike Schnarr finished second at the Provincial Senior Triples Tournament in Qualicum Beach on Aug. 19-21, qualifying for the Canadian Senior Triples Tournament at the Victoria Lawn Bowling Club on Sept. 21-25.

“This is a first for us and a very proud moment of our club,” CLBC president Tim Stevens said. “As far as anyone in the Cowichan Lawn Bowling Club’s 25-year history, we have never sent a team to a national championship tournament.”

The club, located in Duncan’s Centennial Park, remains active with open bowling on a daily basis, several internal tournaments, as well as many social activities, such as Bowls and BBQ, Fish and Chips Night, Pig Roast, and more. Regular lawn bowling ends in late October, depending on the weather, but indoor game afternoons and carpet bowling continue through the winter months.
