A serious push is on to bring senior C lacrosse back to the Cowichan Valley.

Members of the Cowichan River Rats are spearheading an effort to field a team in the Victoria senior C league this summer.

It’s been more than a decade since the Rats last played in the Victoria league, winning the championship in their final season in 2006. While some players from that era will be back in action on the floor and behind the bench, more committed bodies are needed.

The Victoria league runs from early April until mid July. Players can expect two games a week, scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday nights in Esquimalt and/or Saturday nights at the Island Savings Centre. Between four and five Victoria teams will also be involved.

The league is open to players ages 19 and up. Junior B-aged players may be eligible depending on the existence of a junior B team in the Cowichan Valley this year.

A throw-around and meeting for interested players is scheduled for March 10 at the Island Savings Centre gym, starting at 2 p.m.

Initial practice sessions are booked for the Cowichan Sportsplex lacrosse box on March 14, 21 and 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
