The Cowichan Piggies got an easy ride into the second round of the First Division women’s rugby playoffs.

Scribes RFC, the Piggies’ scheduled opponent for the first round, had to back out of the match last Saturday when they couldn’t round up enough players, so Cowichan advanced straight to the provincial semifinals.

The Piggies will play host to Meraloma this Saturday at 11 a.m. It will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.

Cowichan is seeded first in the playoffs after going 7-0 in the regular season, while fifth-seeded Meraloma went 4-4 in the regular season, then defeated fourth-seeded Kamloops in their playoff opener last Saturday.

The other semifinal this weekend features second-seeded Burnaby Lake taking on the sixth-seeded Bayside Sharks.

The winners of the two semifinals will go to the provincial final on May 7, hosted by Bayside at South Surrey Athletic Park.
