Lucie Romeo led the way with four tries in her senior women’s rugby match and fellow Grade 12 student and Player of the Match Morgan Davidson was one of three to score three times as the Cowichan Piggies pummelled a young United RFC from Port Coquitlam 116-0 at the Herd Road pitch last Saturday afternoon.
Another Grade 12, Phoenix Skailes, subbed in at flank just before halftime, replacing national team player Laura Russell, and had an outstanding game.
Hannah McKevitt and Nenagh McCulloch each scored three times, and Russell, Jessica Kamsteeg, Kaitlyn Crichton, Ferris Sandboe, Jenna Bugden and Tyson Beukeboom added one apiece.
McKevitt also slotted four converts, and Lauryn Bons kicked six.
The Piggies improved their record to 5-0 on the season, tied for first with the Vancouver Thunderbirds, although the lopsided victory over United gives Cowichan the edge in points for and against.
Cowichan will play their last regular-season home game this Saturday at 11:15 a.m. against Scribes RFC from Vancouver.
On the men’s side, Cowichan lost 59-5 against Westshore in their final home game of the season last Saturday. The men will travel to the Mainland this weekend to visit the Vancouver Rowing Club.
