After the Cowichan Farm Store Fury’s Div. 3 soccer game against Vic West Wanderers at Finlayson turf on Saturday night, head coach Will Chaster overheard a player comment, “We sure like four goals in a game.”

Chaster doesn’t mind that kind of consistency.

“I am OK with that,” he said. “Provided we score them.”

Saturday marked the third straight game in which the Fury have scored four goals, and in only one of those three have they allowed that many. This time, their opponent mustered only one.

The game started a little later than scheduled when the lights failed to come on, but when it did, Cowichan took control.

“We carried the play for long periods of time throughout the game,” Chaster said. “Our ball control play was very effective at shredding the defence. The players are starting to learn each other and there is a definite flow to the ball movement.”

Alex Smith scored twice in the first half, at seven and 23 minutes, with Brandon Tolfo getting in on the action in the 19th minute. Vic West scored just before halftime, and Cole Lawrence added one more for Cowichan with 10 minutes left to play. Defenders Miguel Trinczek and Connor Crichton kept the doors closed in the Cowichan end for most of the match.

The win moves the Fury into third place in Div. 3 with two victories and two draws. They will be at home against Prospect Lake this Saturday.

Also in Div. 3, Quw’utsun FC suffered their first loss of the season, falling 3-0 to league-leading Vantreights at Heywod Park on Sunday afternoon. Quw’utsun plays at home this weekend, hosting Sooke Celtic on Sunday.
