Fury’s Alex Smith.

It was a hard-hitting contest when the division 3 Vancouver Island Soccer League’s Cowichan Farm Store Fury hosted Prospect Lake United Saturday evening at the Sherman Road Turf.

“PL United seemed to be here to tear up the place,” said head coach Will Chaster following the game.

In fact, Prospect earned their first of five cards just two minutes in.

“It was hard for our players to not retaliate, but in all they did an exceptionally good job not to,” Chaster said.

The coach credited Prospect with their shot-blocking abilities saying there’d been so many in the first half he’d lost track.

“Though with all this tension we did have to chase our tails a bit,” Chaster said. “The good news from this is it shows our determination to press on.”

With his second on the year, Cole Lawrence kicked it off just 20 minutes in, putting the Fury up one-nil on what would eventually be the game winner.

Not to be outdone, Alex Smith added a pair in the 31st and 50th minutes to wrap up the scoring for the Fury.

Goaltender Tim den Hartigh earned the shut out for the Fury — his first of the year.

In other VISL division 3 action, Quw’utsun FC fell 3-0 at home Sunday afternoon to what the team called “a prepared Sooke Celtic team.”
