Forward David Jacobs will represent the Cowichan Valley Capitals in the B.C. Hockey League’s 3-on-3 outdoor All-Star Tournament in Penticton on Jan. 15.

The 20-year-old from Needham, Massachusetts, who leads the Caps and sits fourth in the league with 22 points on eight goals and 14 assists in 18 games, was one of the initial 18 skaters named to the tournament on Tuesday morning. One skater from each team was voted onto the roster after a poll of all 18 BCHL head coaches.

Also among the initial 18 skaters named to the tournament is Braden Blace, a Duncan product who plays for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. The 6-foot-3, 18-year-old defenceman has one goal and eight assists in 16 games this year after posting one goal and 10 assists in 19 games in the 2020-21 pod season.

Held as part of the league’s 60th anniversary celebrations, the 3-on-3 tournament will feature four teams of six skaters and one goalie playing a round-robin, with each game consisting of two seven-minute periods. The second- and third-place teams will meet in a semifinal, with the winner of that game going on to face the first-place team in the final.

With 18 skaters selected, the remaining six spots, as well as the four goalies, will be decided through a fan vote.

Capitals defenceman Nick Marciano and Duncan product Luciano Wilson, who plays for the Penticton Vees, are among the finalists.
