The Cowichan Capitals fell just short of sweeping their three-game Interior road trip, ending it with a 7-2 loss to the West Kelowna Warriors on Sunday afternoon.

The Warriors scored five times in the first 10 minutes to chase Cowichan starting goalie Jack Grant, and took a 6-0 lead into the second period. After a scoreless middle frame, the Caps outscored the Warriors 2-1 in the third.

Jordan Robert scored a shorthanded goal and set up Kolton Cousins’s even-strength marker. Grant allowed five goals on 11 shots before he was replaced by Blake Wood. Wood fared better, stopping 11 of 13 shots. Brock Baier made 27 saves in the Kelowna net.

The Caps went into Sunday’s game with wins in their first two games of the road trip, beating the Vernon Vipers 3-1 on Friday and the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 6-3 on Saturday.

The Caps are now off until after Christmas. Their next game is on Saturday, Dec. 29 when they play host to the Powell River Kings at 6 p.m.
