The provincial curling championships will return to North Cowichan’s Glen Harper Curling Centre in 2023.
Curl BC announced last week that the 2023 BC U21 Championships will be held at the facility on Sherman Road on Jan. 24-29, 2023.
The club has been the site of several previous provincial championships, including the BC Mixed Championships in 2014, the BC Scotties Championship in 2017, and the 2019 BC Masters Championships.
“The U21 Championships is a major accomplishment and goal for our next generation of competitive teams,” said Curl BC’s high performance director, Melissa Soligo. “We use this event to test the foundational skills and competitive IQ of youth who are learning, training and competing at high performance levels.”
The event will be livestreamed on cbcsports.ca.
The preliminary round will be held in a triple knockout format, leading to a playoff arrangement based upon the total number of entries. The length of the event will be dependent on the total number of entries, and will be communicated after the registration deadline of November 24.
The winner of the Curl BC U21 championships will qualify for the 2023 National U21 Championships as Team BC. The National Championships will be held in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec from March 25 to April 2.
The 2022 BC U21 Championships were held in Comox, and featured plenty of Cowichan Valley content. A Duncan team skipped by Emma Woike and including Madison Munroe, Marijke MacDonald and Maddie Buhr competed, and Duncan’s Carley Hardie was on the Comox Valley-based team that placed second.
