The BRI Security bantam C Lake Cowichan Lakers added the playoff banner to their league title with a thrilling victory at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena last Sunday.

Although Lake Cowichan's Ethan Brown scored the first goal of the Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association Mid-Island championship game, the Lakers trailed Cowichan Valley 1 by a 3-1 score late in the second period. In the last three minutes of the frame, however, Benjamin Katerbau and Kyle Hieta snapped off two quick goals to tie the score going into intermission.

The Lakers dominated the third period, getting two more from Katerbau and, one from Will Parks, and an end-to-end empty-netter from Brown to win 7-4 and claim the banner.

On the previous day, the Lakers beat Oceanside 2 5-2 in their semifinal game. Brown, Katerbau and Hieta all scored in that contest, with Jorden Nicholson and Keegan McKinlay also finding the back of the net.
