The latest home game for the local Bantam League Lakers team was an excitingly close one, ending in a four-goal tie with a Cowichan Valley team, Sunday, February 6.

The game was exciting all the way to the end, with John Hieta scoring the Lakers’ fourth, and tying, goal with only five minutes 33 seconds remaining in the third period. Hieta was assisted by Bailey Calihoo.

The team’s other three goals were scored by Austin Tarodi, Lacey Grunow, and James Cummings.

With emotions boiling over for both teams during this close finish, things in the final period got increasingly scrappy, with a number of impressive body checks taking place.

Keeping their collective cool, Cowichan Lake players resisted buying into a post-game fight some Cowichan Valley players tried to instigate. Local players chose to laugh it off.

The Bantam team’s next home game will take place Saturday, February 12, at 9:30 a.m.
