Vancouver Island needs tourist attraction like Skywalk
Re: “Is the proposed Malahat Skywalk necessary?”, (Citizen, March 13)
Maureen is quoted as saying, “Is the skywalk necessary”. Of course it is.
The whole purpose is to bring in more dollars to the tourism industry and to keep people employed. The skywalk is projected to bring in 200,000 visitors per year. An example of $15 per ticket entry, would amount to $3 million dollars per year. Construction jobs of 100, and another 30 permanent jobs as employees of the new skywalk attraction.
Victoria cruise ship passengers would have a land excursion where they would go to the skywalk, stop by in Cowichan Bay, visit the Duncan forest museum, head up to Chemainus and return to their cruise ship. A land excursion trip like this could be co-ordinated with the cruise ships, making their Victoria stop, a little longer, so that the above land trip could be fitted in while their cruise ship is docked in Victoria. Businesses along the way would all benefit from these tourists. Keep the tourist dollars rolling in, and B.C. employees keep receiving regular paycheques. Vancouver Island needs a tourist attraction like this.
