Town council lacks respect for Jack Layton

I have been a constant critic of our local council. In my opinion they lack vision and show a deplorable lack of concern for the economic depression in Lake Cowichan.

Editor: I have been a constant critic of our local council. In my opinion they lack vision and show a deplorable lack of concern for the economic depression in Lake Cowichan.

However, all of this pales in the light of their recent faux pax; their lack of respect for Jack Layton.

Whether you support the NDP or some other political party is not the issue, but rather respect for one who as dedicated their life in political service.

Layton did not represent my political beliefs, but I most certainly respected a most principled and honourable gentleman.

I expected to see our national flag at  half mast, as is the case within municipalities across the country, but ours remained at full mast.

It is a pity that our town council does not have the basic good manners to display respect for a fallen servant.

In my opinion, the mayor and council have proudly displayed their ignorance.
