Threatened lawsuit against North Cowichan is ‘lawfare’

One of the letters in Wednesday’s paper gave me a genuine “LOL” by referring to those who oppose the expansion of the Motorsport Circuit as having “bullied” council into refusing the rezoning.

The owners of the VIMC, the GAIN (German Auto Import Network) has threatened the Municipality of North Cowichan with a $50 million lawsuit should they follow the expressed wishes of their population.

This is reminiscent of the ‘lawfare’ tactics used by Nestle in demanding free access to the ground water supply of a small Ontario municipality.

If they were to go ahead, I would recommend that all citizens do a quick search of the dealerships owned by G.A.I.N. and remember/share widely that information when shopping for a car.

We do NOT need, in a time of demonstrable climate emergency, to glorify the pure recreational burning of fossilized carbon fuels.
