Thank you to those who died fighting Australia wildfires

Lately I have dealt with what is normally called a writer’s block although in my case I think it’s apathy caused by a deluge of information. The year is not even one month old and already we read, hear and see news regarding natural- and people-caused disasters on a daily basis.

The latest news I received however, pertained to a Vancouver Island based company, Coulson Aviation. Earlier this week the company lost one of its Hercules C130 water tankers during her aerial firefight in NSW Australia. The three-man crew lost their lives while attempting to bring relief and support to the ground crew and the many families. These men selflessly took on this very dangerous mission and now leave behind their families to grapple with their loss.

Only this morning the Times Colonist mentioned the accident, while all of Australia mourn these courageous men and are thankful for what they did! I think we can do better than that! I pray for strength for those left behind; may they find solace in knowing that their husbands, fathers, sons, brothers, colleagues and friends are now resting in peace. Thank you for giving the ultimate sacrifice!
