Small disgruntled band spreading misinformation about CMHA-Cowichan
A small, very dedicated, very disgruntled band of CMHA-Cowichan Valley Branch critics in this community continues to write letters to editors which insist on perpetrating misinformation and deliberate misconceptions about our organization.
The letter writers do not respond to facts, nor do they seem to be truly interested in learning these, or in gaining an understanding of what CMHA-CVB does. They prefer, instead, to make wildly false accusations, and to sling arrows at a non-profit service provider dedicated to offering programs to people of all ages who struggle with mental health issues, homelessness, addictions and other life challenges.
I can only say again that, under other world circumstances, all of our programs and sites welcome inquiries and facility tours. We will do so again soon. We also welcome legitimate requests for information, and our program materials, annual reports and audited financial statements are available to our society membership and to the general public. Our curtains are wide open.
I would also like to reiterate that those who work for CMHA-CVB are compassionate, dedicated, committed members of our community who, sadly, have had to endure the incredibly unfair attacks of the letter-writers.
However, in reading the most recent attack, here are some of the comments I received from staff, which demonstrate the true spirit and strength of character in our organization.
“We are far too busy running programs and helping marginalized citizens, desperate for help, to waste time on these kinds of childish, jealous, vindictive, hate-filled tantrums.”
“We all work so hard for those we serve…it feels like a kick in the gut every time. When is enough enough? AND we are trying to work through a pandemic…all while she sits behind her keyboard and spits out slanderous letters to the local newspaper. It is a colossal waste of our time and resources…not to mention what it does to morale.”
“CMHA is a great organization. We’ll be alright. Keep your sense of humour.”
“Everyone is doing an amazing job!!! We can figure our way through this, even though I wish we didn’t have to. I believe in our organization.”
