Should be referendum on new RCMP station
In a referendum we get to vote with a secret ballot, preserving our anonymity. With an AAP we get to very publicly announce our opposition to a very controversial public expenditure. It’s a bit like hanging a target on yourself, a declaration of one’s negativity. This really seems wrong.
The cost of a referendum is 0.12 per cent of the estimated cost which is certain to go over budget. An expenditure of this magnitude should be voted on by all of us. It’s called democracy.
