Shocked by brazen daytime theft

Just when you think you’ve seen it all!

I was sitting waiting in my living room for a health care worker to arrive; nice sunny day; when a small newer model white car pulled up in front of our house. A stocky build, white, gray haired man hopped out, into our garden, and stole a bright yellow fishing float! He hopped back into his car and took off!

I was so shocked I couldn’t believe my eyes! An adult grandfather with a nice car in broad daylight coming right into our yard and stealing! When you think of theft you picture homeless people or drug addicts stealing to support themselves, or teenagers doing it for a lark; but a middle class grandfather? What is this world coming to?

My husband created a “beach” on one corner of our yard with peices of driftwood, rocks and shells we keep collecting. It has been great fun watching the little ones check it out every time they go by, the adults too. But no one has ever taken anything from it, not even the little ones. It’s there for everyone to enjoy. I would hope this man would think better of it and put it back where it belongs. I hate to think of the poor influence he must have on his own family — “if you want it just steal it” — very sad.
