Scientists can’t know what temperature was 200 years ago
Garth Mihalecheon pleads with the readers of the Citizen that if you are a global warming denier, “to look at yourself in the mirror and have a conversation with yourself”. (“Trump-style climate change denial making inroads in Canada”, Citizen, Aug. 2)
He states that “thousands of climate change scientists, hundreds of scientific bodies and decades of exacting research” is basically undeniable proof of global warming.
I took his advice and in the conversation with myself, I asked myself, why have all the scientists claimed that the “global mean temperature” has increased by “less than 1 per cent centigrade” to that of “17.7 C,” since the world started to burn fossil fuel during the Industrial Revolution in 1827, without knowing what the global mean temperature was prior to 1827?
A global temperature is next to impossible to obtain, even in this day and age, let alone 200 years ago. To do so, it involves the combined efforts of hundreds of reporting stations in various countries around the world, on the oceans etc. including the use of satellites.
The fact the world temperature wasn’t taken prior to 1827, the only answer I could come up with to my question was that there is no way of knowing if the world temperature has increased or decreased, in spite of what “the thousands” of “experts” claim.
Don’t align me with Trump, call me a “denier” if you must, but please don’t think of me as stupid, when I know I have been lied to.
