Officials should stand behind the Lake Cowichan mayor

After reading Mr. Patterson’s response to the news story and comments made by Mr. Ridley regarding an appearance of a potential conflict of interest [by Lake Cowichan Mayor Rod Peters], he states “it is obvious that the mayor has crossed that line”. Now it would seem that he himself has done the same thing in crossing a line. I suggest he show the proof of this conflict or apologize to the mayor for accusing him of doing so. Proof!

It’s well known that the town has not been known as business friendly as it makes out to be. For the last number of years most reasonable requests of the past mayor and council were met with the starting point of “no”. If it was chickens or driveways, or any number of requests.

Mr. Peters ran on a platform that is pro business, and doing what’s needed to bring the town forward and help in building it back up from a hole, perhaps due to shortfalls by past administrations’ direction and past mayors. We have an opportunity with the new mayor who is supported by a majority of the residents, who voted him in. Perhaps in the case of the comments made by Mr. Ridley, the sitting, more experienced council members might have directed him in a direction of careful consideration instead of being of little help at all. What I see as a swim or sink attitude. Remember that Mayor Peters won this election hands down. Has the majority of support needed to follow his agenda.

I would think that council and the members of the APC, including Mr. Patterson, start standing behind the mayor in his attempt to bring this town forward instead of leaving it millions more in debt, and with a slew of yet to be completed projects, as it stands right now. This town needs this change mostly because the status quo is not working and has been broken for years.
