My vision for 85 Station St. in Duncan
An Oregon firm hired to creatively transform 85 Station St., do I read that correctly?
I live downtown and often spend time sitting around and people watching; one of my favourite spots is 85 Station. Sometimes on a hot summer afternoon I have visions — I see the big gray wall with a mural of perhaps a blue sky with fluffy clouds, something to provide a suitable background to the many photos taken of the totems. I see two nice divided seat benches along the wall as a sheltered place to sit on a sunny winter day.
The poor, deformed trees replaced by the red maple, tourists could then carry a maple leaf home. The artificial grass stays. Numerous people reach down to touch it and are surprised when I tell them it’s fake. The rock work needs attention, perhaps set in bark mulch to keep the weeds down. A few colourful plants such as lavender would be nice. And then, of course, in my wildest vision, I see Sir John A. statue standing in the middle, paying homage to the totems and I think to myself, “What a wonderful world”.
