Motorsport expansion bad idea in age of climate change
Dear: North Cowichan mayor and council
Think about it, a track patron may fly first class around the world to drive in pointless circles in impractical vehicles with giant engines, driven or shipped from distant places and burn vast amounts of rubber and fossil fuels while pumping out carbon and noise pollution. Does that sound like responsible behavior in the face of a climate change emergency?
How about if you cut down a whole bunch of healthy forest to lay down some more asphalt so that more cars can drive farther and faster in bigger pointless circles and burn more rubber and fuel and produce more carbon and noise pollution? One would hope that the decision makers, who understand and accept the science of climate change would not waste a lot of time or energy in determining that this proposed expansion would only make a bad idea much worse.
Students from around the world have gotten the point about climate change so why can’t we adults? Climate change is reducing our forests to rubble, our oceans to deserts and our air to smog. We are on the edge of an emergency, please act responsibly and protect what we have left.
