Marijuana shop permits in the slow lane

Rather than a hide-and-seek approach to locating cannabis stores in our municipalities, why not have our paid planners create a map specifying where cannabis stores can be located?

As things are now, store owners apply to council about a specific location, only to usually have their proposal rejected due to the 600-metre rule banning shops from near schools and playgrounds.

This is backward and ineffective. And remember, municipalities and the province stand to gain in sorely needed tax revenues once these shops, now legal, open.

By rejecting most municipal permits continually, legal cannabis users, including legal medical patients, turn to black-market dealers or the internet for cannabis.

Get with the permit program quickly, councils. Marijuana is now legal for many uses, whether you like it or not.
