Look at Bell McKinnon planning good idea

I would like to express my support of Councillor Justice in asking the planning department for an opinion on the impacts of development around the new hospital site on Bell McKinnon Road.

Even keeping development of this area to a compact version with homes for 2,400 people is going to have massive repercussions: increasing urban sprawl, the economic fortunes of other nearby urban centres, and the rural quality of North Cowichan — something that is central to our identity and highly valued by most citizens.

Judging by their full-page newspaper ads the pro-development lobby deems even this exponential growth to be insufficient. Their vision of North Cowichan’s future is through the lens of their bottom line, but growth at that level in this neighbourhood will jeopardize the very qualities that make North Cowichan special.
