We should have tax decreases

Tax hike of 9.26 per cent? Are you serious? All the local governments have already received a cash gift (cow) because of the inflationary property assessments.

These assessments are far greater than the proposed 9.26 per cent and that increase is immediate. If anything, the councils should vote for a tax decrease. This year’s taxes are about twice what the taxes were last year all because of the assessments and it’s that simple. So, are the North Cowichan councillors telling their voters that paying nearly double property tax is not enough?

Councillor Tek Manhas states that he wants to see an increase of three per cent. Oh boy. Wow. In my opinion, he is either unfamiliar with property tax or naïve or subscribes to usury. I urge all elected officials of our local governments to get real and put the interests of the voting public first rather than playing the “money take game” to grab even more from the citizens of the Cowichan and Chemainus valleys.
