Pedestrian safety jeopardized in Cowichan Bay

There is no doubt Cowichan Bay is becoming a huge visitor draw and the adjoining Hecate Park and boat launch area is a wonderful adjacent attraction. Why then is the 200 yard walk between the two such a dangerous obstacle course?

The road is curved and narrow, the 30 km/h speed limit largely ignored and the “resident” parked cars leave no pedestrian space. The obvious solution is to mark out a “ no parking” sidewalk on the shoulder and enforce it. Residents’ cars should not have a monopoly on this precious space. I have emailed my CVRD Area D Director, Lori Iannidinardo, with no response.

Is it up to citizens to beseech the Highways Department to assist our village and safeguard residents and tourists? Has anyone any ideas on how else to achieve some pedestrian safety?
