New Kinsol Trestle parking lot must be looked into carefully

Dear CVRD board:

Despite past agreements and understandings about land use near the Kinsol Trestle, I urge the CVRD to carefully study the best place, or no place, for expanding visitor parking and picnicking.

Parking, vehicle use, and tourism should not trump strongly needed ecological preservation and enhancement across Cowichan.

If wetlands near the proposed parking site and Taylor Park may be harmed, a big rethink of the expansion is needed now for best use of taxpayers’ $459,000 grant toward our community economic-recovery infrastructure.

Just because the CVRD received that grant for said project doesn’t mean plans can’t be changed for picking the optimum low-impact site.

Why rush? Let’s do this project properly, or not at all.

Our open-minded regional directors are tasked with using surgical attention when undertaking projects such as this in nature, and near existing homes.
