Mural for downtown park a good idea
Dear Duncan mayor and council:
Downtown visitors have suggested an outdoor mural be painted on the south-facing wall of downtown’s much-loved small park at Craig and Stations streets where the historic Red Balloon building once stood.
That’s a good idea to dress our downtown for locals and tourists alike, instead of them staring at the current large, blank wall just begging for artwork.
Perhaps a heritage theme by our trove of local artists — and befitting our city’s long, colourful history thankfully chronicled in our great archives at city hall.
City staff kindly told me a Finance Department update is coming regarding Duncan’s Public Art Reserve fund containing $10,746 appropriately earmarked for our future E.J. Hughes statue.
I’m curious about that reserve update, particularly if there are any new funds that could be used to pay for such an instructive mural — as we also save toward that long-awaited statue saluting Duncan’s late master painter Mr. Hughes, Order of Canada.
